At St
Mary's the worship of God is the centre of our parish life. Each Sunday we come
together to celebrate and share God's gift to us in the Eucharist. Visitors and
newcomers are always welcome, and all baptised Christians are invited to share
in the holy communion.
There
are two Sunday services, at 8am and 10am. Both follow the Second Order of Holy
Communion from A Prayer Book for Australia (1995).
The
8am service draws a gathering of worshippers who meet in the Mary Chapel.
Regular participants have developed a close bond and share breakfast together
in the parish hall after the service. The service lasts around 45 minutes.
The
10 am service is a Sung Eucharist reflecting a relaxed Anglo-Catholic style of
worship. We use music, movement and colour, as well as incense, bells and
candles to help lift our hearts, minds and senses toward God, rather than
relying on words alone to express the mysteries of our faith and worship.
On an
ordinary Sunday the service lasts for about an hour.
The
10am service is followed by morning tea in the Church Hall - a time to enjoy each
other’s company and welcome newcomers and visitors.
Children
are very important to the life of our parish and our worship and their
contributions to and participation in worship are valued. There is a
play spaces
with toys and learning activities suitable for preschool and primary
school
aged children, and activities that children may take to their seats if
they
prefer to stay with their family. Sunday school is offered weekly during
the
school year, and takes place during the sermon at the 10am service. From
August 2011 there will be a monthly children's service at 3pm on the
first Sunday of each month, a new programme for older children and youth
during the 10am service on the third Sunday of each month, and regular
children's talks prior to the sermon at 10am.
During
the week the Daily Office is said in the Mary Chapel. Morning Prayer is
Monday-Friday at 8.30am and Evening Prayer at 5.30pm Monday-Thursday. All
are welcome. There is an opportunity for coffee every day following Morning
Prayer. The eucharist is celebrated in the Mary Chapel every Wednesday at 12.30pm.
On
feast days, the Eucharist is celebrated at times advertised in the pew sheet
and on the front page of this website. |
